After 15 months of devastating conflict, Gaza has begun the difficult process of recovery. On Monday, rescue workers and civilians started to confront the sheer scale of destruction, with Gaza's Civil Defence agency estimating over 10,000 bodies remain buried under ruins.
Devastating Statistics
- 60% of structures across Gaza have been damaged or destroyed (UN estimates)
- Over 2 million Gazans left homeless, without income, and dependent on food aid (UN World Food Programme)
- 46,900 people killed and 110,700 wounded in Gaza during the conflict (Palestinian health authorities)
Aid Efforts Underway
Humanitarian aid began entering Gaza immediately after the ceasefire, with 630 lorries delivering essential supplies on Sunday and an additional 915 lorries on Monday.
Challenges Ahead
Recovery efforts face significant challenges, including:
Trauma and Suffering: Gazans have endured 16 months of trauma, suffering, and loss.
Infrastructure Damage: 85% of Gaza's Civil Defence vehicles and 17 out of 21 facilities have been damaged or destroyed.
Uncertainty and Risk: The ceasefire is fragile, and there are concerns about potential annexation of the West Bank.
International Response
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the ceasefire as a "ray of hope" but warned of a worsening situation in the occupied West Bank.
Thank you Jesus
