A Nigerian passenger, Ahmed Rabiu, has filed a N26m lawsuit against Virgin Atlantic Airways over his missing luggage on a flight from London to Lagos. Rabiu is seeking $4000 (over N6m) in compensation for the lost luggage and N20m in damages for the distress and inconvenience caused.
According to court documents, Rabiu checked in his luggage on the airline's flight from London Heathrow to Lagos on September 24, 2024, but it was nowhere to be found upon arrival. Despite reporting the incident to the airline's staff, Rabiu claims that Virgin Atlantic neither returned his luggage nor compensated him for its value.
The passenger alleges that the airline's actions were fraudulent, reckless, and negligent, and that he has suffered significant economic losses and emotional distress. The case is set to be heard on February 10, 2025.
