In a tragic incident in the Ori-Osoko Community of Abeokuta, Ogun State, a 58-year-old man named Adeleye Alani reportedly ended his life by jumping into a well on March 11, 2025.
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the incident was reported on March 12 by the deceased's brother, Adeleye Olukunle Olubunmi. He had received distressing news from his brother's wife, Adetoyin Taiwo Adeleye, who returned home around 10:30 p.m. on March 11 to find her husband missing. A search around their premises led to the discovery of his slippers beside their house well, raising suspicions. To her dismay, she later realized that her husband had jumped into the well, taking his own life.
Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately mobilized to the scene, where the body was recovered, and photographic documentation was taken. The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Ogun State Police Command expressed its condolences to the bereaved family and urged community members to seek emotional and psychological support during difficult times.
This incident underscores the importance of mental health awareness and the need for accessible support systems within communities.
