South African Afrosoul singer and songwriter Yolanda Nyembezi, known as Yallunder, has passed away at the age of 30. The Bizana-born artist died on March 13, 2025, at Johannesburg's Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital after battling an illness.
Her family released a heartfelt statement: "A soul so rare and a voice so rich, Yolanda graced this earth with a spirit that was as warm as it was powerful." They described her as a beacon of love and artistry who remained strong throughout her illness.
Born on August 23, 1994, Yallunder was a classically trained vocalist and graduated cum laude in vocal pedagogy. She gained recognition in 2018 through her soulful voice, which attracted industry icons like Black Coffee and Sjava. Over the years, she collaborated with musicians such as Kabza De Small and Kelvin Momo.
The music community is mourning her loss, with fellow artists and fans sharing tributes online. Her family has asked for prayers and support, emphasizing that her music and spirit will live on. "Rest in power, dearest Yolanda. You are loved beyond words," they said in their statement.
Yallunder’s legacy as a gifted and passionate artist will be remembered for years to come.
