Nigerian businessman Nnamdi Joseph died in police custody in Douala, Cameroon, under suspicious circumstances, triggering widespread calls for justice.
Arrested over an alleged car headlamp theft, Joseph reportedly suffered severe health complications in detention. Witnesses claim authorities ignored his pleas for medical help, instead administering unsuitable medication. Allegations also suggest officers demanded bribes before allowing his release.
Despite being rushed to a hospital, he died shortly after arrival. The Nigerian Consulate has vowed to seek accountability, while activists demand an independent investigation into police misconduct and the treatment of foreign nationals in Cameroon.
