President Bola Tinubu met with Catholic Bishops of Nigeria on Friday March 14 at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock Abuja. The delegation was led by Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria alongside Bishop Emeritus John Cardinal Onaiyekan and Bishop Matthew Kukah.
During the meeting Tinubu addressed key issues facing the nation highlighting his administration’s efforts in tackling security challenges. The presidency stated that Nigeria has made significant progress in security since Tinubu assumed office on May 29 2023.
“In terms of insecurity Nigeria is more secure today than it was in 2023 thanks to our military security agencies and the strong leadership of President Tinubu” the presidency noted.
According to the statement over 8000 criminals including bandits armed robbers Boko Haram terrorists and kidnappers have been neutralized in the past two years. Additionally more than 10000 abducted Nigerians mainly women and children have been rescued.
The presidency also linked improved security conditions particularly in the North West and North East to increased agricultural activity. It claimed that many farmers have returned to their fields contributing to higher food production and a gradual reduction in the prices of essential commodities.
The meeting with the Catholic Bishops underscores the administration’s ongoing dialogue with religious leaders on national issues particularly security and social development.
